About

Hi! I am Jesse

Welcome to my lineman life

I knew nothing about fiber or lineman work when I first started in this industry. Hell I didn’t even own a pair of boots when I agreed to take the job. Sometimes it really is just who you know and not what you know.

But without the work ethic and determination to succeed at the job, you won’t last long enough to call yourself a lineman. So 6 years in now and I’ve definitely come a long ways, but am by no means the best of the best.

I’ve worked for the same boss my entire time and it’s been great. I’ve messed up a lot, showed up everyday, gained a lot of confidence, and learned that being a good lineman is more than knowing how to frame a pole.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Do you work during the cold winter months?

As much as I hate the cold. Yes we work during the cold winter months.

2. How much money can you make as a fiber lineman?

Some people get paid by the hour, by the day, or in my case- a percentage of total production. I do enjoy being compensated by percentage as it is motivation to work hard. A very average work week $1500. A solid week $2200.

3. Have you ever been in danger?

Yes. If it’s not the electrical lines it’s dogs that want to bite you, yellow jackets that want to sting you, or the heat that can get to you.

4. Do you travel a lot for work?

I travel every week to work and come home after work on Thursdays. I live with co workers either in a hotel or a camper, during the work week.
